Are you looking for an inexpensive way to make your own picture frames Well, this is a video you want to watch. ![]() Fit a piece of cut-to-size glass into the frame, then lay the picture face down on the glass and place a backing over it. (If you’re building with attractive lumber, I recommend finishing with linseed oil.) Having finished the piece, flip it over so the back (rabbeted) side is facing up. Once you have allowed enough time for the wood to dry completely, it’s safe to apply your choice of finish. Sand the picture frame, then wipe away any sawdust with a damp cloth. Two nails close to each outside corner ought to do the trick. Dab wood glue onto each joint, then fasten the pieces together by means of brad nails. Step 5Īssemble the four pieces into a rectangular shape, remembering always to position the rabbet groove to the inside. Make sure you’re keeping the rabbeted side to the inside of the frame. On the two leftover pieces, repeat the process of measuring, marking, and cutting, this time using as a guide the shorter side of the picture to be framed. Mark the second board, then cut it so that you have a pair of identical pieces. Next, place the second board over the one into which you’ve just now cut a second angle. Here, cut a 45-degree angle, this time in the direction opposite to the initial angled cut. Then choose one of the two boards and transfer that total measurement to its rabbeted side, marking the distance. Measure the longer side of the picture you are going to frame add 1/16″ to that measurement. In other words, once you have finished cutting an angle into each board, the rabbeted edges should be opposite the longer (and pointier) side. Use a miter saw to cut one end of both boards at a 45-degree angle, being careful to make sure that the rabbet runs along what is to become the inside of the frame. The picture is going to lie against the rabbet, so if you expect to frame an item (or to use a mat) of considerable thickness, accommodate it by creating a more generous rabbet. With a router, cut a 1/2″ x 1/2″ rabbet-that is, a rectilinear groove-along one of the long sides of each of the two pieces. (Of course, if you’d wanted the frame wider or narrower, you would have set the table saw accordingly.) Step 2 These must be exactly the same width, so pass the wider of the two through the table saw a second time. Setting the table saw at 1-1/2″ (from the blade to the fence), rip the wood board into two 4-foot-long pieces. If a twig picture frame seems too much work, but you still want to try out making a DIY picture frame, then try looking for readily made crafting tools. The length depends on the size of your frame, but usually, a 6-inch twine is enough for a standard 4 x 6 picture frame. But for the sake of simplicity in this tutorial, we’ll assume that you intend to build an 11″ x 14″ picture frame from a 1″ x 4″ maple board that measures 4 feet long. Tie a long piece of twine on top of the frame for hanging. The following steps apply in a general way no matter what type of wood you want to use (or happen to have on hand), or what size you would like the picture frame to be. 12/25/2023 0 Comments You season![]() ![]() ![]() Although it is taken from one book series, each show is adapted from different books within the said series. Technically, you can easily skip the original Bosch series and still watch Bosch: Legacy as a fresh, independent series. The teaser clip also shows us the characters who would be returning from the first season, like Jerry Edgar, Maurice “Mo” Bassi, and Honey "Money" Chandler. It goes without saying that the focus of Season 2 would be Maddie where Harry’s investigation might lead him to unexpected places. The new season will perhaps have a very different side to Harry’s character, where he is facing a personal crisis of this breadth. It looks like there’s no room to slow down and breathe, it looks like season 2 will be packed with tension, action, and lots of hold-your-breadth moments. He is ready to break and bend all rules and take any path necessary to hunt Maddie’s captors. In the second season, Harry is a father on a mission to find his lost daughter, whatever it takes. And if there’s one word that can sum up the feel of the new season, it’s “tension.” The season, as the trailer shows, picks up right off the cliffhanger finale, where we see Maddie getting abducted. Bosch: Legacy Season 2, based on The Crossing, picks up right where the first season ends and sees Harry in a vulnerable position where his daughter, Maddie, gets kidnapped.Īmazon Freevee dropped the first official teaser of Bosch: Legacy Season 2 on August 24, followed by a Collider exclusive of a new clip and sneak peek from the season. Season 1 ends with a major cliffhanger, which leaves many questions while also hinting at what to expect in the next chapter. However, most of the plot lines from the season were neatly tied up. The first season, based on the books The Wrong Side of Goodbye and The Night Fire, explores how Harry has forgone the conventional methods of seeking justice and forges his own path within the legal system. Developed by Connelly, Tom Bernardo, and Eric Overmyer, who also executive produce, the crime thriller series focuses on Harry Bosch who now works as a private detective after leaving LAPD and navigates new challenges with new friends and old enemies. ![]() Based on the best-selling Harry Bosch book series by Michael Connelly, Bosch: Legacy is a spin-off of the hit crime thriller series Bosch. A third season has also been greenlighted ahead of the second season premiere. The much-awaited season comes more than a year after the first season that premiered in May 2022, which was announced in November 2021. The countdown to Harry Bosch’s return is over as everyone’s favorite detective and Amazon Freevee’s popular and successful Bosch: Legacy returns with a brand-new second season. This shift in thinking was propelled by the magnitude 7.3 earthquake that shook Landers, California, in 1992. “And then over time, as the data has gotten better and better, we’ve started to realize that there’s potential for multiple faults to rupture for single events.” “Historically, the thought has been that earthquakes occurred on individual faults,” he says. While such complex quakes are not unheard of, recent research suggests that they may be more common than once believed, explains Zachary Ross, a geophysicist at the California Institute of Technology. Of particular interest in these quakes is that at least the first temblor seemed to have simultaneously broken two sections of faults that cut across each other at nearly a right angle. The shaking was also widespread, with reports of light ground movements as far as Chico, California, and Phoenix, Arizona. While no deaths or major injuries have yet been reported, the intensity of the ground movement was quite strong-enough to send goods flying off store shelves and buildings swaying. ![]() They seemed to have occurred along the same set of faults, located in an area known as the Little Lake fault zone. ![]() The recent events are what’s known as strike-slip earthquakes, which occur when two blocks of Earth shift side-by-side, grinding past each other. WWII: Modern techniques A bomb disposal team in 1940 This trend of cat-and-mouse extends even to the present day, and the various techniques used to disarm munitions are not publicized. Initially there were no specialized tools, training, or core knowledge available, and as Ammunition Technicians learned how to safely neutralize one variant of munition, the enemy would add or change parts to make neutralization efforts more hazardous. ![]() This caused them to increase their usage of delayed-action bombs in World War II. The Germans saw that unexploded bombs caused far more chaos and disruption than bombs that exploded immediately. ![]() Such delayed-action bombs provoked terror in the civilian population because of the uncertainty of time, and also complicated the task of disarming them. These tests led to the development of UXBs ( unexploded bombs), pioneered by Herbert Ruehlemann of Rheinmetall, and first employed during the Spanish Civil War of 1936–37. In 1918, the Germans developed delayed-action fuzes that would later develop into more sophisticated versions during the 1930s, as Nazi Germany began its secret course of arms development. In response, the British dedicated a section of Ordnance Examiners from the Royal Army Ordnance Corps to handle the growing problem. These were hazardous to attacker and defender alike. The swift mass production of munitions led to many manufacturing defects, and a large proportion of shells fired by both sides were found to be "duds". WWI: Military bomb disposal units A British NCO preparing to dispose of an unexploded bomb during the First World Warīomb disposal became a formalized practice during World War I. It would later be known as the "Anarchist Squad" and the "Radical Squad" for its response to radical bomb attacks in the wake of the 1919 United States anarchist bombings. Known as the "Italian Squad", its primary mission was to deal with dynamite bombs used by the Mafia to intimidate immigrant Italian merchants and residents. The New York City Police Department established its first bomb squad in 1903. After Victoria Station was bombed on 26 February 1884, he defused a bomb built with a clockwork mechanism which might have gone off at any moment. His advice during the Fenian dynamite campaign of 1881–85 was officially recognised as having contributed to the saving of lives. He also pioneered many bomb disposal techniques, including remote methods for the handling and dismantling of explosives. In 1875, he framed the Explosives Act, the first modern legislation for explosives control. As a Major in the Royal Artillery, Majendie investigated an explosion on 2 October 1874 in the Regent's Canal, when the barge 'Tilbury', carrying six barrels of petroleum and five tons of gunpowder, blew up, killing the crew and destroying Macclesfield Bridge and cages at nearby London Zoo. ![]() The first professional civilian bomb squad was established by Sir Vivian Dering Majendie. 12/25/2023 0 Comments Washington post crosswords![]() ![]() Ultimately, they hope to find more collaborators for the Post’s daily mini metas. With White back at Princeton this fall, the duo is looking to recruit other like-minded cruciverbalists to join their informal crossword club, where they share work and solicit guidance and mentorship. Problem solved, and interesting new tidbit learned. He texted White the issue White suggested changing one letter of the solution word so that it would be the name of a reasonably identifiable - or at least Googleable - rap artist named Bhad Bhabie. Remaking the puzzle using the word’s correct spelling (“baht”) would take hours. We do that for each other in a great way.”įor example, Muller recalls accidentally using the antiquated spelling for the Thai currency, “bhat,” as a solution in a recent puzzle. “That gives you tons of energy and unblocks you. And then all of a sudden, someone gives you a different perspective,” Muller says. “When you’re trying to something, and you get stuck, you can get into this place in your head where it’s frustrating. White offers a youthful sensibility and familiarity with contemporary culture (using “modern gender-neutral pronoun” as a clue for the word “they,” for example) Muller brings extensive knowledge and experience and an older-generation appeal (e.g., referring to the famous French singer for the word “Edith”). White is big on language and puns Muller is a music lover with a knack for math and business. Muller and White cite their different skill sets as a reason their collaboration is so gratifying. “All other writing is presenting something to the reader to consume, but with crosswords, it’s collaborative. “To make a good crossword is to make someone smile when they figure out what’s going on or get a tough clue,” says White, who describes crosswords as the “perfect mixing” of his two loves: trivia and wordplay. Let’s say they’re inspired by the start of baseball season and come up with “umpire.” Then they brainstorm a five-word clue for that solution, such as “they stand near home plate.” Next, White generates clues for all the puzzles, ensuring that each word of the five-word meta clue is included in succession. ![]() To create the mini meta, Muller and White first have to generate a final solution. The Post has since picked up the series through 2022. In fact, it was so successful that Muller offered White a full-time position, which White accepted, deferring his junior year at Princeton. “Brainstorming how to meet those constraints and actually come up with something that works is really fun,” Muller says.Ĭlick on the image above for a printable version of this Mini Meta 43 puzzle by Pete Muller ’85 and Andrew White ’23.Since it launched in March 2021, the daily mini meta has seen a 350 percent increase in the number of daily solvers. The series consists of six 5x5 puzzles, with one puzzle published daily from Monday through Saturday. White began interning with Muller that spring, and together they invented a new kind of puzzle series for The Washington Post: the daily mini meta. “The rest is history,” White says with a laugh. White got wind of Muller’s search and reached out. “We publish on Sundays, which is the crucial part because people would take the crosswords and go to Sunday brunch and solve them with friends,” White says. “I’d get emails from people I’d never met before with pictures of their solved puzzles, saying, ‘I loved this!’” White, a classics major from the Boston area, had built a reputation on campus as “the crossword guy” by publishing puzzles in each issue of the Nassau Weekly. And just over two years ago, during a conversation with then-student Tiger Gao ’21 on the student-run podcast Policy Punchline, Muller mentioned he was interested in finding a collaborator to help him brainstorm puzzle clues and themes. In his spare time, Muller is an avid cruciverbalist, with his creations appearing regularly in The Wall Street Journal and The Washington Post. The Santa Barbara–based singer-songwriter, investment fund founder, and former Princeton math major had a unique side hustle that he wanted help with: constructing crossword puzzles.
